St George's Church & The Tetley, Leeds | Jimi & Mary |
After getting to know Jimi and Mary on their pre-wedding shoot when we went for a wander around Bramley Falls park near Horsforth, I knew their wedding at the Tetley was going to be a belter, and it was!
Choosing Leeds as the base for their day we headed down to St Georges Church in the City Centre for the ceremony. You can see from the shots but the church itself makes for a pretty epic background and frames the couple perfectly. Once the official bit was done and dusted and they had danced their way back down the aisle, the rain had stopped and the guests were loaded onto a Black Vintage London bus, Jimi and Mary decided to take a walk through town over to the Tetley. I followed along and documented the journey capturing them enjoying themselves which made for some great portraits. They even stopped in a record shop for a nosy, it’s fair to say they got a bit of attention walking through town on a busy Saturday.
They made a great couple to shoot and every detail had been thought through, from Mary’s dress from Glory Days, her complimenting white Dr Martens, down to Jimi’s Star Trek pocket watch. The attention to detail carried on throughout the venue with a friend making a tiered naked cake sprinkled with berries, and epic lego J&M initials. If that wasn’t enough the couple also created a beautifully illustrated game with personalised pencils for their guests to enjoy throughout the afternoon.
Choosing a less traditional approach Jimi and Mary did the speeches together which was a great idea and had their guests smiling and laughing along with them. With the first dance over they both changed into evening outfits before throwing some shapes and dancing the night away! Thanks for having me shoot your day guys, it was ace.
